Will Fowler

Will Fowler is a second-year Trombone Fellow at the New World Symphony. He has performed with The Juilliard Orchestra and the Juilliard Trombone Choir, as well as in the Renaissance Chamber group under the direction of Raymond Mase. Will was also a guest with orchestras such as the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

Originally from the Maryland suburbs of the Washington, D.C. area, Will earned a master’s degree in music at The Juilliard School, where he studied with Joseph Alessi. He began his musical journey in group piano lessons at a young age before discovering the trombone in fourth grade. In late middle school throughout high school, he studied with Ken Wolff and was an active member in Wolff's trombone studio, which fostered a unique trombone community through a weekly trombone choir, monthly master classes and forming trombone quartets and trios within the studio. That early exposure to community and collaboration through music launched Will's passion to study music.

Will attended Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, where he studied with teachers Michael Mulcahy, Douglas Wright, NWS alum Christopher Davis, Randall Hawes and Timothy Higgins. He was member of two trombone quartets that would go on to win the International Trombone Association Quartet Competition in 2022, and the National Quartet Competition at the American Trombone Workshop in 2023.

In conjunction with his musical studies, Will pursued a double major in political science at Northwestern due to his interests in government and politics, as well as international relations. A synthesis of all three of his interests, one of his favorite courses from his time was the Politics of Post-Soviet Russia.
